Conservation

RBS undertake all aspects of conservation works to preserve and protect buildings, structures, and cultural heritage.

Listed below are some common types of conservation works RBS have undertaken over the years.

  • Restoration works which involved returning buildings or structures to their original form and condition as closely as possible. It typically entailed repairing or replacing damaged or deteriorated elements using historical evidence and original materials whilst under the guidance of an architect or another suitably qualified professional. These works aimed to reveal the building's original design and features whilst addressing structural stability and functionality.
  • Preservation works which focussed on maintaining the existing condition of the building and structure, thus preventing  further deterioration. These works included routine maintenance, cleaning and structural stabilisation.
  • Consolidation works which involved stabilising and reinforcing buildings to prevent further deterioration, the aim being to strengthen the buildings stability and structural integrity without significant alterations to its original form.
